We live in a world where we can sit in our room and talk to the person on the other side of the planet. How amazing is that? And yet, behind the door of unprecedented connectivity, bright screens, and flashy technologies, something feels off. We somehow feel more disconnected than ever. Comparison, polarization, and hatred spread like a plague at a speed of a click, and nothing seems real anymore.
When you finally take your eyes off the screen to look around, everything seems soulless. Same houses, same outfits, same stores, and same conversations… Wherever you go, it seems like you can’t escape the sickening uniformity. Over the past few decades, as the growth of technology hit an exponential spurt, we got used to pursuing progress and standardization. However, while being obsessed with the efficiency and optimization, without knowing, we traded our style, originality, and unique scent for numbing familiarity and cheap conveniences. We were so caught up in making everything shinier, faster, and easier that we began to lose the very thing that makes us human.
In the day and age where fear spreads, chaos thrives, and trust fades, we must seek something deeper than a trend. We must seek our unique “style”—not only in our fashion, but in ways we live, think, communicate, and show up. We shouldn’t be afraid of searching for our own “style” and sharing the beauty of it with one another. Perhaps true unity and diversity don’t come from categorizing and labeling. Maybe it will come when we finally embrace and celebrate each other’s own unique “style”.
So how can we find our style? How can we dispose of our jaundiced, narrow-minded, capitalistic, and insecure lenses we were trained to look through and let ourselves see things as they are? It starts small, in our everyday life. Question everything. Ask yourself and others—is what you’re doing, listening to, wearing, or posting really you? Or are you just conforming to the crowd, trying to fit in so hopefully, no one realizes that you are different? Slow down and observe more carefully. Notice the things that speak to you and make you feel alive. Compliment people not just for their shiny hairs but for their unique “style”. And most importantly, never stop searching for what feels right to you.
We are human because we are unique. And our unique “style” can only be discovered through looking into ourselves. When you finally find your style, share it with the world. Announce it with confidence. Live it unapologetically. Because we can truly appreciate the “style” only after seeing its astonishing beauty. When we exuviate from the habit of swiping left and right and look inwards, the world will change. Each of our one and only “styles” will come together and make this world a richer place.
