Several schools, including Rice, went into lockdown this morning at approximately 9:35 a.m. after multiple police departments throughout the state received hoax(swatting) reports of various attacks and threats to schools.

Rice issued the following email at 10:46 a.m. to all parents and teachers:

“At approximately 9:35 today, Wednesday 2/8, we received a call from the South Burlington police that they received a phone call that there was an armed assailant at RMHS. We immediately went into a lockdown and the police and administration walked through the building checking every space to ensure that everyone was safe.

Upon determining that there was no safety concern, the school was returned to normal operating function. It’s important to note that Rice was one of several schools that received this alert from the police.

We apologize for the disruption, anxiety, that this may have caused. But out of abundance of caution, we followed our safety protocols with the police.”
